Remember the Mi-2 Hoplite we covered back in April? The one that landed on MSFS 2020 and quietly blew everyone away with its detail? Well, Digital Aeronautics just delivered the second half of the promise. The MSFS 2024 version is here.
For a studio that only launched its first product two months ago, this is a serious statement. A lot of developers take their time porting between platforms — sometimes too much time, leaving 2024 owners stuck waiting for months while everyone else flies. Digital Aeronautics didn’t let that gap drag on, and the helicopter community is clearly noticing.
What you’re getting is the same study-level recreation that made the original release such a pleasant surprise. We’re still talking about a fully clickable cockpit, systems modeled in genuine depth, and that distinctive Eastern bloc handling character that makes the Mi-2 such an underrated machine. The real-aircraft sound recordings carry over too, so the engine note and rotor wash still sound like they came off an actual airframe rather than a sample library.
What’s particularly nice here is that this isn’t a lazy reskin. Porting a study-level system simulation between MSFS 2020 and 2024 involves real engineering — the underlying SDK changes, lighting behaves differently, and a lot of developers end up cutting corners just to get something out the door. Early impressions from the community suggest Digital Aeronautics didn’t take that shortcut.
There’s also something quietly satisfying about watching a Soviet-era utility helicopter get this level of attention. The Mi-2 spent decades doing unglamorous work across Eastern Europe — agriculture, medevac, light military duties — without ever becoming a poster aircraft the way a Huey or an Apache did. Simmers who’ve been craving something genuinely different from the usual Western rotor lineup finally have a serious option, and now it works natively on whichever version of MSFS you’ve settled into.
If you already own the 2020 release, check Digital Aeronautics’ store page for cross-grade details. If you’ve been holding off because you’re MSFS 2024 only, that excuse is gone now.
Two releases in two months. Keep an eye on this studio — they’re moving fast, and so far, the quality is keeping pace.
